The 30th Anniversary Edition of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was originally botched as a fullscreen-only anguish. However, Warner listened to the people and gave them a improbable widescreen transfer.

Colors are vibrant, the 5.1 Dolby Digital track is very nice, and there are a handful of wintry extras. There is the 30-minute documentary “Pure Imagination” which shows some of the cast today, including all the children and Gene Wilder himself. The interviews of the cast looking relieve at the movie which was the defining thing for so many of them is very inviting. The documentary on the whole is rather fulfilling. While one feels that the documentary could have delved deeper and maybe been an hour-long, at a brisk 30 minutes, the pacing seems okay and it won’t leave you wanting too remarkable more. There is a puny amount of archival on-set “B” roll footage, but all that is there is attractive.

Also included is the new theatrical trailer (Warner left off the 25th Anniversary trailer that was on the modern DVD release from 1997), a 4-minute featurette on the production invent, and a feature-length audio commentary from the children, who have now grown up. The other features – “character bios” and sing-alongs – are shapely noteworthy fluff features. Since this was one of my most anticipated DVD releases of the year, I can’t support but feel Warner could have done more in the method of extra features – games, outtakes, deleted scenes, etc. Nevertheless, the overall inform of this DVD is satisfying enough.

WOW, I can’t bear how long ago this film was made and how unbelievable it is even today! It really doesn’t seem like it’s from 1971. I have probably seen this film over 500 times by now, since the 80’s and I unruffled am not the least bit bored of it. At 28 years extinct, I unruffled totally cherish this film!!! The characters, especially Gene Wilder who plays Willy Wonka, who is THE Willy Wonka, who could never be topped EVER (yes I’ve seen the 2005 film!), the music, the setting, the songs, and especially the Oompa-Loompa’s! Everything in this film is so wonderfully done and everyone who hasn’t seen it yet, needs to as soon as possible!!

My current site or scene in the whole film has to be the gigantic candy and chocolate room where Willy Wonka sings “Pure Imagination.” Not only for the song but because I can eye how powerful work the director establish into this film. All the candy and chocolate looks so staunch and alive and the whole room looks so glowing the intention everything is location up! I also treasure that teacher, Charlie’s teacher that you glimpse a lot until they go into the chocolate factory, he is so comical! And it’s situation in London, an added bonus!! I objective cannot come by enough of this film or recommend this film enough!! It’s a masterpiece!!! It’s definitely one of my approved movies of all time!!!

Who could not adore Veruca’s “I Want It Now” performance? That whole scene was totally colorful!

The Special Widescreen Edition DVD has tons of extras. There is commentary by the kids who got to go inside the factory. You’ll also learn that Gene Wilder wouldn’t play Willy Wonka unless he was able to do that somersault that he does before letting the kids through the gate. There is an interview with Gene Wilder from 2001, The Making of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, four lisp along songs, a 1971 slow the scenes featurette, and a photo gallery.

I’ve noticed various reviews here have stated that the video quality was impressive. Personally I was quite disapointed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Fugitive! Click Here

This was the first Blu-ray I purchased and frankly I was disappointed with the video quality. I realize the film is never going to sight as comely and elegant as more novel films, but the image quality seemed lacking.

It has a soft, washed out ‘milky’ leer and the detail is off and on. Sometimes the close-ups on faces are impressive, but then it will carve to a city shot at night and I really noticed the lack of definition.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Fugitive! Click Here

Of course great of this flatness comes from the fact that the photography was fairly stupid in the first plot (the whole film has a ‘grey’ behold), but I unexcited expected something more impressive on the Blu-ray format.

Also the sound is not HD or PCM. It comes with the same audio as the previous DVD.

So my advice, if you only want to pick up Blu-rays with edifying video & audio quality, this is NOT one of them. But, if you are simply a fan of the film and want the best quality version available, then this is peaceful your best bet.

Although this movie is amazing, sadly it is one of Harrison Ford’s last sterling performances (other than perhaps “Positive and Display Misfortune” in 1994) . Ford plays Dr. Richard Kimble, a man wrongly accused of killing his wife. He escapes prison and then sets out to not only avoid recapture, but also display his innocence. As marvelous as Ford’s performance is, this movie is really carried by Tommy Lee Jones who plays Marshall Samual Gerard. His humor and intensity are outstanding. The site is absorbing with lots of action. This is the first movie I’ve had the pleasure to spy in the theater, on laserdisc, on DVD, and now on HD DVD. The HD DVD transfer is quite splendid and the sound is improved over the DVD version as well. Highly recommended.

I am a grand fan of the terminator series. I reflect the chronicle is one of the best ever concieved as it has alot to do with whats really going on in the world. Will artificial intelligence ever approach a point were it becomes self aware? Its a very bewitching demand and I mediate that is one of the reasons why it has been so successful as a series. This is also one of the only trilogys that I feel calm has alot of potential for future movies. I contemplate we really need a terminator film that is actually plot in the future where the terminators live and with the new announcment of T4 most likly being made, hopefully we will derive fair that.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines! Click Here

As for T3, it is without a doubt the worst film of the 3 but with that being said I smooth really enjoyed this film. Alot of the people that disliked it did so because they said it went encourage on everything that was established in T2. I am not one of these people and I really like the aspect of this film that turned around and said Judgement day is inevitable. Its without a doubt the single best twist to this entire anecdote in my conception because in reality it really is. Technology will continue to drive forward with computers getting better and better and no matter what you do to finish it, someone else will pop up and continue the research and development. Its basically where we are today with technology. There is no stopping the advancment that we gaze taking set on almost a daily basis. If one company were to conclude develpment in a clear location, someone else would impartial pop up and pick that companies or persons area.

Anyways that is really why I liked this film so great. It took the series in a completly novel direction by stating that there was no diagram to discontinuance it while the first two movies focused on what to do to actually terminate it. With that being said this movie had its flaws and it unprejudiced isnt on the same level that T1 & T2 are on. Its unruffled a highly gripping action film with some ample performances and a broad ending that perfectly sets up the Terminator film that I am dying to sight, the one space in the wasteland of the future. Hats off to Arnold as well who really busted his butt to gain into killer shape for this film so he wouldnt leer any different than he did during the first 2 films. He pulled it off without a hitch. Unprejudiced another testament to that guys ability to work his body and catch into killer shape.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines! Click Here

Anyways on to the HD-DVD…

There were a few people on the HD forums that were disappointed in this transfer as it didnt present the amount of detail that some of the better transfers have shown. While it is lawful that this transfer doesnt have the detail indicate in some of the other transfers like Aeon Flux, Batman Begins and Sahara, it is aloof a substantial looking film and a tremendous improvment overthe SD version. One of the thing you have to acquire into story is the fact that definite films objective translate over to HD with considerable better results than others do. T3 was shot using Super35 and to sum up the Super35 process, it doesnt utilize as considerable residence on the negative that regular anamorphic does thus you have a exiguous loss of detail compared to those that employ standard anamorphic. With Super35 you also have to earn intermediate prints to gather the transfer onto a film that can be old-fashioned in theatres. Everytime you effect an intermediate print you lose resolution and detail. So to sum it up as I really dont want to glean into a gigantic technical discussion on Super35 and the other film processes. Super35 unbiased does not have the image quality that regular anamorphic does period. T3 is a super35 film thus when you transfer the t3 film onto HD it impartial isnt going to seek as intelligent as a lot of the other films that arent Super35. Some of the main characteristics of Super35 are increased grain and less detail, both which are indicate in the HD transfer of T3.

With that being said, T3 collected looks spacious and is a gigantic improvment over the SD version. I am actually a fan of increased graain as long as it doesnt survey noisy which in this case it doesnt. It adds a disticnt eye to the film. As noteworthy as some people would fancy for every film to scrutinize like the Batman Begins of Aeon Flux transfer, its fair a poor understanding. To form evey film contemplate the same would be like taking all of the artistic possibilites of film and throwing them down the toilet. Its first-rate that films eye different because it would be a very dumb world of cinema if everything looked the same. Objective image what Tim Burtons Sleepy Hollow would recognize like if he archaic the same film and process broken-down for Batman Begins. It would have absolutly destroyed the film and would have taken all of the spooky atmoshpere away. He purposly musty despicable processing to construct all of the colors washed out and to develop it more grainy and more contrasty. That film also looks substantial on HD-DVD but like T3 doesnt have a transfer that shows as remarkable detail as some of the other transfers.

The sooner everyone relaizes that not every film is supposed to have astounding detail, intelligent colors, & natural difference. Films differ by the processes former to invent the film and those differences in process equate to a dissimilarity in characteristics in a HD transfer. You have to educate yourself on objective what processes were outmoded for each particular film and only then can you build an educated critique of a particular films HD transfer.

To sum this up, T3 is certainly not a disc you want to pop in when your trying to present someone unprejudiced how grand detail can be seen in a HD movie. It was filmed in Super35 thus it was never trying to be a film that had a crazy amount of detail in the print. With that being said, T3 is a sizable transfer that is correct to its master print. Its a mammoth improvment over the SD version and its a enormous film which hopefully leads the series to a 4th film which is position in the future. I know I wont ever be done with the understanding of a unusual Terminator flick until that particular narrative has been told. Here is to hoping they regain around to making that happen.

OC..

I give the film five stars, because I like the movie. About the 1080i issue: if you acquire an erroneous T3 Blu-Ray disc, you can call Warner’s customer service number at 1-800-553-6937 for an exchange.

This review is mainly about the DVD presentation of these MGM musicals, “Cole Porter Collection” box location. The movies are ALL CLASSICS and worth the mark of admission.

First of all I must congratulate Warner Brothers Home Video for their outstanding job in putting together this 5 DVD Cole Porter musical site!!! This 5 Musical box state have all been digitally remastered both report & sound. The black/white relate quality is outstanding, the TECHNICOLOR pallet is gawk popping/vivid, and the sound is crystal certain. There is an abundance of film related extra features included for each film too. Cole Porters music is at its best throughout this collection.

Qualifying Statement: I have a Home Theatre including; a 55″ 16:9 WideScreen HDTV with a Progressive Scan DVD player/recorder and a Dolby ProLogic Surround System. My movie library consists of over 500 DVDs, mostly remastered & preserved in their current theatrical presentation release (corpulent veil or widescreen anamorphic aspect ratio) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Classic Musicals Collection – The Cole Porter Gift Set! Click Here

NOTE: Beefy Veil – 4:3 (1:33 to 1 ratio) made for tv or films released before 1953. WIDESCREEN (movies made after 1953 to compete with television) – 4:3 LETTERBOX (horizontal top & bottom shadowy bars on tv, add left & proper vertical gloomy bars too on 16:9 WideScreen HDTVs) adjusted for any aspect ratio 166/185/225 to 1 etc. It is unruffled letter box.) ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN IS THE ONLY Apt HDTV 16:9 PRESENTAION. This format automatically adjusts to the television being musty. To procure the High Definition characterize the DVD MUST BE ANAMORPHIC & ENHANCED FOR 16:9 WIDESCREEN TELEVISIONS!!!!!!!!

Now in SUMMARY: Rotund Shroud – “BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940″ starring the best tap dancing duo of all time Fred Astaire & Eleanor Powell. This in my concept is the best musical of this box position. The represent & sound quality is absolutely improbable. The dancing and Porters music is the best!!!! The musical film finale “Inaugurate the Beguine” is extraordinary. The extra features include; Ann Miller hosts a background documentary Cole Porter in Hollywood: Initiate the Beguine (immense info), Our Gang (Spanky etc) episode “The Gargantuan Premiere”, Slack the Scenes Notes and trailer. This is a Black/White Burly Camouflage film. What a musical. this film alone is worth the impress of admission. “KISS ME KATE” starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and Ann Miller. This 1953 TECHNICOLOR DOLBY 5.1 musical is sparkling to witness and the stars voices are astonishing. The dancing choregraphy of genius Hermes Pan is outstanding, with young dancers,Bob Fosse, Carol Haney and Ann Miller. Extras include; Ann Miller hosts Cole Porter in Hollywood: Too Darn Hot, Music Track Only, Vintage documentary short “Remarkable Manhatten, Unusual Yorks Wonder City”, Slow the scenes notes and trailer.

ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN – “HIGH SOCIETY” Cole Porters 1956 musical remake of the 1940 comedy hit, “The Philadelphia Anecdote”. This time starring Grace Kelly (her last film before marrying the Prince of Monaco), Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. This is my second approved of this box location. The veil play, the music and the stars are perfectly cast. Note: Crosby & Kelly invent the “Upright Worship” duet and it becomes a gold portray. This TECHNICOLOR widescreen remastered record presentation is better than the new theatrical release with Dolby 5.1 sound. Porters songs are at their best. We even have Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong jiving too.

Extras include; Celeste Holm hosts Cole Poter in Hollywood; Suitable Adore, Premiere Newsreel, Audio-Only radio ads featuring Crosby, Kelly & Sinatra, Millionaire Droopy Cartoon, gradual the scenes notes and trailer. Don’t miss “HIGH SOCIETY” with the regal lovely beauty of Grace (actually wearing her steady engagement ring – what a rock), the crooner Crosby and Used Blue Eyes Frank this is an outstanding delight to examine and listen too!!!! “SILK STOCKINGS” – Porters 1957 musical adaptation of Garbos “Ninotchka” – starring Fred Astaire & Cyd Charisse. This TECHNICOLOR WIDESCREEN DOLBY 5.1 presentation is gorgeous to witness and provides us with their last MGM musical. Extras include; Cyd Charisse hosts Cole Porters in Hollywood: Satin and Silk, 2 vintage musical shorts – Paree, Paree (1934 singing Bob Hope) and The Poet and Peasant Overture (presenting the MGM orchestra), gradual the scenes and trailer. “LES GIRLS” this 1957 musical starring Gene Kelly, Mitzi Gaynor, Kay Kendall and Taina Elg. Directed by George Cukor this Widescreen Technicolor Dolby 5.1 DVD is pretty to glimpse but is the least known of Porters musicals. Extras include: Taina Elg hosts Cole Porters Hollywood: Ca C’est L’amour, vintage cartoon – Flea Circus, tedious the scenes notes, trailer.

If you are a Cole Porter fan or you treasure musicals, this DVD box situation is for you. Warner Brothers has done a expedient job preserving, restoring and digitally remastering these films. A complete delite.

I recommend at a minimum rent “BROADWAY MELODY of 1940″ and “HIGH SOCIETY” these 2 musicals are a must for your DVD library. Overall I care for this box station. Appreciate.

Cole Porter was one of the greatest composers of all time and this a fabulous salute to him. The DVDs in this collection are:

Kiss Me Kate: A astonishing record of how two ex-spouses in a musical adaption of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” act the same offstage as they do on.

Starring: Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel, Ann Miller

The Broadway Melody of 1940: Amazing Dance Numbers, Titanic Stars, Flamboyent Costumes, IT’S Spacious!

Starring: Fred Astaire, Elenore Powell, George Murphy

High Society: It’s the musical remake of “The Philidelphia Tale”. Am ex-husband trys to re-marry his soon-to-be married e-wife, Tracy, and along approach the Recognize magazine reporters to dig the dirt on Tracy’s original wedding.

Starring: Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra

Silk Stockings: The musical remake of “Ninotchka”. A film producer uses Paris and himself to try to charm a hard-cut envoy.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Classic Musicals Collection – The Cole Porter Gift Set! Click Here

Starring: Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, Janis Paige

Les Girls: Th yarn of a showman and his Les Girls as each girl tells their account.
Starring: Gene Kelly, Mitzi Gaynor, Kay Kendall

In my plan, I consider that the not-well-known Cole Porter’s “The Pirate” with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland should be in this boxset INSTEAD of “Les Girls”.

A mainstay on HBO around 1982-83, “Lady Chatterly’s Lover” is a soft-core romance, but not a sleazy one. It wasn’t successful in theaters, maybe because nobody knew what audience it was targeted to (surely not literature addicts or art-house filmgoers; maybe Sylvia Kristel/”Emmanuelle” fans) . Consequently, it was favorite on cable and video, where viewing privacy can elicit whatever reactions critical (mostly giggles) . It isn’t very well-made, but the acting is decent and the passion is convincing. The editing is sloppy, with some sequences, and the ending, prick short, but it does have a few steamy scenes, frisky nudity, and trustworthy dwelling filming.

This 1981 (not ‘82 as suggested) film adaptation of the D. H. Lawrence classic is an appetizing B-ride if only for its panoramic scenery of foggy London and the sexually challenging performances of its stars. Indeed, Sylvia Kristel (Emmanuelle) and the slack Nicholas Clay (Excalibur) bring nothing but skin to their characters of an unlikely duo fascinating in a torrid affair. Over an ultra-syrupy rep (by Richard Harvey and Stanley Myers), and a well exhaust of camera work by Robert Fraisse, the two go at it with all their splendor, leaving nothing to the imagination except to wonder if the movie would have been better had a talented cast been enthusiastic. Since it isn’t but remains toothsome despite its flaws, this LADY CHATTERLEY’S LOVER is superficial enough to be camp classic material, which is, as we all know, an principal factor for lovers of such films.—–Martin Boucher

When I heard about a year ago that Hal Hartley’s “The Astounding Truth” is going to be out on DVD in 2001, I feared some crude quality production – but this release should indicate wonderful for this masterpiece. The record will be 1.85:1 anamorphic and hopefully the image quality is going to be salubrious considering Anchor Bay’s estimable reputation… Having been the directorial feature film debut for acclaimed director Hal Hartley, the film does not long for any gargantuan extras to be on the disc – an audio commentary would have been illusory – but we do earn an interview with Hal, and the theatrical trailer of course. This is definitely a disc to obtain for all Hal Hartley fans, and the only thing that could invent me even happier would be more DVD releases of his movies: Trust, Simple Men, Amateur, Flirt, his short films, etc… I’m desperately waiting!!

If you like Trust and Simple Men then you’ll esteem this film. Personally I care for all of Hartley’s works, but to me these three films honest go so well together. They’re all earlier works and in these films you behold an incredibley inspired director do more with a extreme budget film than most high paid directors could ever dream of doing. I’d also like to say that if you’ve never seen a Hal Hartley film then this is probably the best point to begin out at.

I strongly recommend! Originally released in 1960, the film returned to theatres 4 times in later years. This is absolutely one of the most fun family films the Walt Disney Studios ever made. There is truly something for everyone… comedy, action, adventure, drama, romance, and suspense. Even at 126 minutes in length, it does not feel too long. Starting in the aftermath of a shipwreck, the Swiss family rebuilds their life on an uncharted tropical island. They employ the wealth of earn in livestock, tools, guns, furniture, wood, and more to effect a great home in the trees, complete with running water and other conveniences. The mother and father initiate an idealic exhistance with their 3 boys mature 9, 16, and 18. But one day the older boys settle to retract a canoe and explore the rest of the island. They stumble across pirates that are attacking the crew of a ship, and rescue the captain’s daughter, bringing the wrath of the pirates on them since they are discovered.

Directed by Ken Annakin, the movie was filmed on situation on the caribbean island of Tobago. While the production went procedure over budget for a total cost of $4 million, Walt did not earn upset with his production team at the time since the film was looking to be success when he reviewed clips from the residence. As it turned out, with subsequent theatre releases, television, and video airing, the film has turned out to be one of the top-grossing films from Disney.

The tropical scenery is spectacular as they filmed all over the island; waterfalls, forests, grass plains, flowers, beaches, cliffs, mountains, oceans, streams, and grand more. Contributing a stout amount to the exotic locale of the movie are animals, pirates, ships, and a tree house to beat all tree houses ever made. Similar to the role the submarine “Nautilus” filled in the earlier film “20,000 Leagues Below the Sea”, the tree house becomes a star in it’s believe proper. The amazing and inventive home designed by the castaways and from the ships secure is extraordinary to explore.

Featuring a incredible cast and crew assembled by Walt himself, Mr. Disney liked to stick with actors he knew could describe to a vast audience. Most of the actors in this film appeared in other Disney movies over the years, many times with other actors from this film. Hayley Mills (Pollyana, Parent Trap, That Darn Cat, Summer Magic, In Search of the Castaways, The Moon-Spinners), Dorothy McGuire (Stale Yeller, Summer Magic), John Mills (Did not appear in other Disney movies, but was Hayley’s valid life father), James MacArthur (Light in the Forest, Third Man on the Mountain, Kidnapped), Kevin Corcoran (A Tiger Walks, Savage Sam, Venerable Yeller, The Shaggy Dog, Bon Voyage, Babes in Toyland, Toby Tyler, Pollyanna), Tommy Kirk (Probably the most proficient of all with Savage Sam, Feeble Yeller, The Shaggy Dog, Moon Pilot, Bon Voayage, Son of Flubber, The Absent-Minded Professor, Misadventure of Merlin Jones, The Monkeys Uncle, Babes in Toyland), and Janet Munroe (Darby O’Gill and the Microscopic People, Third Man on the Mountain) . Most of these actors also appeared in movies for the Disney television series as well.

VAULT DISNEY DVD VERSION

The 2 disc DVD treatment that Disney gave this film is perfect, starting with gigantic packaging and case. It is in Widescreen, the first widescreen release outside of theatres for the film in fact. And what a dissimilarity it makes in the attractive set island vistas of the film. The film has been cleaned up and remastered to its unusual brilliance with lush colors, titanic image and depth, it objective sparkles. The DVD transfer itself is very well done, a high quality job. The audio is very orderly and crisp.

DVD EXTRAS

The extras on this DVD are what really get the best version released of this film, and they are not all listed here at Amazon or even on the packaging. You have to hunt them down and earn creative with your remote. So let me benefit by telling you what to discover for if you purchase this… For starters they have the fresh cartoon that was released with the movie, “Sea Salts” allowing you to discover this with the kids the scheme that it is meant to be seen. There is a 2 microscopic “1960 Disney Studio Album”, a montage of projects, attractions, shows, and films being made and released that year. There is an audio commentary as an alternate track that features comments from cast and crew.

Next we have 23 minutes from a vintage Walt Disney television “Improbable World of Disney” episode titled “Dash to Paradise”, that expose the making of the film unhurried the scenes. Up next is the modern 1960 movie theatre trailers for the film, and the 1960 televison spots to advertise the film. Then there are “Storyboard to Scene Comparisons”; a seperate “Storyboard Gallery”; and a 2 little “Production Gallery” of photo stills from gradual the scenes at status. Another gallery is rotund of production stills; Next is “Biographies” on 8 principle actors; and then “Opinion Art” on the films pre-production produce work.

As if that’s not enough a featurette titled “Adventure in the Making” was made objective for this space, and at 49:00 minutes long it is very complete and satisfying, with new interviews of the new cast and crew. There is large slack the scenes recent footage in this part, and the folks regale us with silly stories of the filming days. Peter Elleshaw (matte artist), Ken Annakin (director), Danny Lee (special effects), and actors John Mills, Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran are all here for unusual interviews. ANOTHER short 4 little featurette that was also made fair for this status is “Swiss Family Treehouse”, narrated by Hayley Mills. It is the pre-opening footage and the precise Opening Ceremony of the “Swiss Family Robinson’s Tree House” attraction (now gone, replaced with Tarzans Tree House) at the Disneyland Park. Walt himself is there and it is evident he is really enjoying himself in this must-see footage.

Included on the dwelling is a very nice 12 miniature interview with James MacArthur, who appeared in this film and 3 others for Disney along with a TV movie. This features broad video as well. There is a “Pirates” music video train along featuring pirate themed clips from Disney films, TV shows, cartoons, and the theme park attraction “Pirates of the Caribbean”, all state to the Disney tune of “Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirates Life For Me”. An new or unexpected extra is a featurette that has 20 minutes of excerpts from a 1940 non-Disney version of the anecdote.

The dvd area has Audio Archives situation to photos from the film, including 2 Interactive Sound Studios, 2 songs from the film, novel 1960 radio spots. Another precise treat is the complete LP soundtrack of the unique “Storybook Album” of the movie released in 1960.

SUMMARY

I really enjoyed this DVD, and this film really got the best of treatment by Disney. They simply outdid themselves and I am one grateful viewer. I wish all the really generous classic Disney films got at least some of this royal treatment. They have a reputation as the best studio about protecting their used source material, archives, etc, but they are not always grand in using it for their DVD’s so I can really bask in the anguish here by the decision makers. Thank you Disney for this compilation that really honors this gem of a film the procedure it should be!!!! My highest recommendation if you are considering buying this DVD.

The folks at Walt Disney Home Video have place together four wonderful modern “Vault Disney” releases that truly showcase DVD technology at its best. “Swiss Family Robinson,” one of Walt Disney’s best-loved live-action adventures, benefits immensely from DVD technology, especially the wide-screen presentation and THX restored represent and sound quality. The widescreen alone would have blissful most fans, so the plethora of extras on the supplemental disc are truly special. I have never seen a DVD with so many extras presented in such a creative and easily accessible map. Thank you to everyone at Walt Disney Home Video for this improbable DVD. Hopefully, more titles will follow in this series (like Third Man on the Mountain, Darby O’Gill and the Itsy-bitsy People, The Moonspinners, and Summer Magic) and ALL Disney DVD’s will be released in their novel theatrical ratios

This is a extraordinary collection.

I can’t contemplate of a finer compilation for someone involved in exploring the diverse uses of animation (defintely non-Disney, thank God) and adult always in theme and occassionally frontal nudity (a couple very brief seconds in “Special Delivery”) and this is most assuredly not porn (soft or hard.) But what happens in some of these classics may be bit too harsh for children or outside their opinion. Parents or guardians should settle for themselves.

(1) I judge “Special Delivery” a masterpiece. A slay ( that is not at all assassinate) that is a very incisive win on hypocrisy and immorality (or is that amorality.) A apt example of how a “cartoon” can do a lot more than secure an hysterical laugh out of you. It’s black-humor, will probaby give most anyone a colorful smile, chuckle or bawl.

(2) “Getting Started” is one of Richard Condie’s first films and another masterpiecce. Condie seems incapable of not making a masterpiece. His remove on everyday delusions of grandeur and reality is a charmer with his fabulous off-center sense of humor. Beautifully appealing and executed. Once you adjust to Condie’s humor and style, you’ll be coming serve for more. This is fresh individualist creation at its best.

(3) “The Enormous Snit” is another Condie masterpiece of a remarkable higher order. Here Condie makes a statement on the unthinkable that is hilarious until literally the slay. This isn’t one of the best gripping films, it belongs in the company of the greatest films ever made. Condie is an absurdist in the W.C. Fields tradition. The couple in this at first seem unreal, but their bizarre eccentricities fabricate them somehow, more realistic, believable and, even, lovable, while maintaining a giddy swipe at “normalcy.

(4) “Regain A Job” is an exceedingly fascinating and probably successful disaster using rock ‘n roll to present how to do what the title and classic song expect. With plenty of brilliant, almost Looney-Toonish animation, it is unbiased boring fun to ogle and delievers it’s message without bludgeoning. Would that all public service messages were this kewl and bright. A classic.

(5) “The Cat Came Support” is a film I had heard about for years, and I was stunned it wouldn’t live up to its praise. It more than lived up to the kudos it has justly received. It is about a guy, who makes the mistake of taking in a cat on his doorstep and comes to,uh, regret it. He keeps tossing out the cat. The cat returns and as only a cat can demolishes the guys house and life. Never has there been such sunny murky humor. This is as amusing as the best Loony Tunes and better than the average. Pure gold with an ending that makes it a gem. Masterpiece every moment of the device.

(6) “Juke Bar” combines live action with animation as cockroaches live it up in a newly delivered old-style juke box to a greasy spoon hot dog joint. The fancifully conceived and engaging roaches turn the juke box into a bar. And then the partying begins. A incandescent delight. But all parties must demolish and this one has a capable double surprise ending. Actually, not surprising if you’ve ever battled the cramped SOBs. Titanic character animation. A classic.

(7) “Blackfly” is an animation based on a song written by the Canadian who wrote and sings about his experiences as a lumberjack. Another classic. After 6 and 7, you may feel like scratching.

(8) “The Lump” is a cautionary story on wanting everything to observe perfect and how insisting on perfection that is cosmetic note can lead to misfortune, i.e. seeing only the beauty and not the reality, which is spun to ogle dazzling. Another masterpiece to get one see a very steady blind-spot in all of us. More relevant than ever in today’s unbelievably defective unique regime of politicians

If you are a worn (in all ways) adult, this is a reliable one for taking a contemplate at “alternative” animation and its riches–artstic and stammer.

I don’t know why this DVD is getting hard to regain all of a sudden. My copy arrived today, but it looks like you can no longer order it.

First off, this DVD isn’t really for American kids. With that in mind, please read the following review. Anyway, this is a more spellbinding selection of National Film Board of Canada sharp shorts than the Leonard Maltin Animation Favorites DVD. The Maltin selections were edifying too but too arty for the average viewer (I nearly fell asleep throughout “Pas de Deux” on that video) .

In “Animation Greats!” we ogle a variety of crowd pleasers, beginning with the surprising “Special Delivery” and ending with “Blackfly”, an absorbing adaptation of a Canadian folk song. Factual, there is smooth “The Lump” after that one, but “The Lump” is impartial so Humdrum and dead. An overlong pixilation/collage short with unappealing characters.

The thing about this DVD is that unlike a lot of short film collections, the ratio of true Gracious shorts is higher. The best ones are “Special Delivery”, Richard Condie’s “Getting started” (which is also on the Maltin DVD but the sound is better on this print), “The colossal snit” (also by Condie, an improbable prove of Condie’s unusual humour), the rarely-seen, albeit helpful musical comedy “Net a Job” starring Bob Dog…and of course, “The Cat Came Benefit” which seems to be in nearly every single compilation of NFB shorts (It’s on the Maltin DVD as well as on any number of past, show and future compilations) .

The only shorts I had no treasure for were “The Lump” and “Juke Bar”, a pre-”Joe’s Apartment” cockroach-infested stop-motion escapade. It honest wasn’t silly enough. Overall I recommend getting this if you thought on watching the cartoons with friends, and the Leonard Maltin DVD if you want some attractive visuals.

This would’ve got 5 stars from me if they replaced “The Lump” with McLaren’s “Neighbours” and “Juke Bar” with “What on Earth”.

This, the first of the heavenly Pink Panther series, is an fantastic film. To know that originally Peter Ustinov was cast to play Jacques Clouseau as a straight, inept French detective is a sobering idea. After Ustinov dropped out, of course, Peter Sellers got the role and after consultation with Blake Edwards, decided to manufacture him not only inept, but also bumbling and accident prone, a characterization that defines how we contemplate of Clouseau today. This film is spirited in that since it is the first of the series it is engaging to seek the origins of the character, and how different he is here than in later ‘Panther’ films. Here is clumsy and prone to pratfalls, but is less flamboyantly slapstick than in the later films.

The film also stars the fantastic David Niven, who plays the perfect suave English thief, and a very young Robert Wagner as his equally debonair nephew. Female stars are the fair Claudia Cardinale and Capucine, two of the top European actresses and models from the era.

The movie is a bit more sedate than the later films in the series, but detached is one of the funniest movies of the sixties. ‘A Shot In The Dark’, also released in 1964, as the first sequel, began the transformation to the later formulas with additions such as the extraordinary Herbert Lom. ‘The Pink Panther’ does introduce the spirited ‘Pink Panther’ short for the first time, as well as the often imitated, never duplicated title theme. Other viewers will have their acquire popular scenes, and the costume party is surely one of the highlights of the film, but for my money the best scenes in the film revolve around Clouseau trying to woo his wife by playing his Stradivarius violin, over many protestations. The gape of damage on David Niven’s face during his playing is worth the sign of the film alone

If I were doing it today, I would engage this DVD as allotment of the multi DVD ‘Pink Panther’ state, where it also includes a few engrossing bonuses such as a ‘trivia track’, which adds tremendous tidbits about the film.

Peter Sellers was a amusing genius, and the world quiet waits for another genius of his stature. I judge we will be waiting a long, long time.

This first Pink Panther movie is as grand as the next “A Shot in the Sunless.” Both are well-behaved films, with a sound anecdote, a creatively hilarious and colorful screenplay, a well-developed position of characters, and a current style of filming that elevates “slapstick comedy” to the highest level of sophistication. there are so many quotable lines that are well-worth to write them down as you see the movie. The soundtrack song “Meglio Stasera(It had better be tonight) “is wonderful and written to fit perfectly into the theme and mood of the film. Fran Jeffries sings it very well to a crowd of people by a fireplace, and she is as palatable as this scene itself. Claudia Cardinale and Capucine prove style and charm in their roles. The title sequence runs over 7 minutes and it is as valid as the movie itself. The 60’s recount, in my thought, the highest point in fashion and general pop culture which truly reflects the highest level of sophistication and taste; in this context, this movie is one of the movies that best portray the 60’s. I agree with the other viewer that this movie should figure in the 100 Best movies of any list. The DVD is enormous with the finest report quality; check the trailer because it is hysterically laughable and very current, not the case of original movie trailers. This movie is ideal for a cozy evening with friends and your well-liked martinis. I objective wish there were a special DVD edition with Director Blake Edwards’ commentary on separate track, and of others enthusiastic in the making of this masterpiece.
